Welcome to Petpals Wirral West

Please contact us to make a booking.

Jim and Jayne started their Petpals professional pet and home care services operation in 2010.

After 18 years of working in education, and reaching a Senior Teacher level, Jim decided he wanted to combine his love of animals and the great outdoors with owning his own business. Jayne, a professional librarian, has joined him and they now cover the Wirral West area for Petpals.

Animals have always been a key component in our lives. Jim grew up with German Shepherds (his father was a breeder) and Jim and Jayne's cat, Pixie, was with them for 16 years, even enjoying living in the Middle East with them. Currently, they have both Bella and Buffy, who are two delightfully crazy ex-rescue cats.

At Petpals we are fully trained and insured. Our goal is to deliver high quality and professional pet services by providing reliable and flexible solutions for all your pet care needs. Our range of services include pet home visits, dog walking, cat sitting, dog sitting, dog visits, dog and small animal boarding - all with the aim of providing your pets with the same love and affection they receive from you. Therefore we offer a particularly popular alternative to catteries and kennels, for day trips or long breaks. Early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment, especially in school holidays.

We are always on the look out for new host families for our clients dogs, so email us if you would like to offer your services or know of anyone who might be suitable.

At Petpals we are fully trained, insured, uniformed and police checked. We are delighted to offer a flexible range of friendly, professional services that can be personally tailored to your requirements and your pet's individual needs. Our pet sitting and pet boarding services include, dog sitting, dog walking, dog boarding, home visits for cats and small pets, puppy care, elderly dog care, home visits for dogs, cat sitting and a pet taxi and pet to vet service.

We are registered pet sitters who have completed training in the following:

  • Pet Handling and restraint

As the owner of 4 cats and 2 goldfish I find this service invaluable as it is much less stressful for my guys and much more cost effective than a cattery. Always friendly and responsive for those last minute trips. I even got texts to let me know how my kittens were getting on! I would highly recommend this service.

We were very happy with the service provided by Petpals. We found Jayne & Jim a very friendly couple and we had every confidence in their caring of our three cats. When we arrived home, the cats were very pleased to see us and they looked happy and well fed. We would have no hesitation in recommending them to others and we will certainly hope to use them again when the need arises.
  • September 1, 2011 by Cathy Orillat - Petpals Wirral West

A big thanks for taking such good care of Bruce (cat) during our holidays. He is usually very demanding and lonely when we leave him for a few days, but this time he was just like his usual self: relaxed and happy. Thanks again!

Everything went great with Pana's stay, she loved staying with Karen, Mark and Molly, they are all really lovely! I was very impressed, Karen and Mark are great, they said they loved having her to stay too, the photos were great and so cute and made me feel very happy she was being well looked after!! I will definitely call you again when we need a dog hotel for Pana! (Karen said that's what her niece calls her house)! Many thanks to Jim and you for all your help too, was much appreciated, we have now managed to sort out the flat in Wycombe!

Jayne & Jim are obvious animal lovers and this showed in the care and attention to detail given to Flopsy (rabbit). This is the first time we have used Petpals, but it will not be the last

When Jayne & Jim came round for our home visit, they were friendly and happy to carry out any instructions to take care of our pets. We have chickens that I have only recently owned and was worried leaving them, on my return from holiday they were happy and well looked after.
  • May 24, 2011 by Joanne and Paul - Petpals Wirral West

Thank you Jayne and Jim for looking after our two English Pointers while we where away. It was lovely meeting you and very reassuring by the amount of information you took about our boys, it was obvious how much you love animals and Jack and Scout were instantly drawn to you. Many thanks again!
  • May 21, 2011 by Caroline Goodman - Petpals Wirral West

I would highly recommend Jim from Pet Pals to anyone. He kindly walked my two Rottweilers after I had had a fall. He was always very prompt and my dogs always came back desperate for a drink. Thank you for everything Jim, I don't know what I would have done without your service.
  • February 9, 2011 by Fiona Grainger - Petpals Wirral West

Jim and Jayne have been fabulous, and my greyhound Minnie adores them. Always reliable, and always so willing to help out if I need any extra visits. Jayne's diary is a great addition too - so funny to read about Minnie's adventures. All in all, a top class service!
  • January 21, 2011 by Sue Askew - Petpals Wirral West

Petpals have been a godsend to me! I don't have to worry about leaving my dogs now, knowing they will have a nice walk and a break in their day when I am at work. They are now nicely calm and relaxed when I come in from work and seem much happier. I have found Petpals to be completely trustworthy and reliable, and would recommend them to other pet owners.
  • January 5, 2011 by Barbara and Brian Ritchie - Petpals Wirral West

We were very pleased with the quality and promptness of the Petpals team, especially as we didn't arrive home on our specified day due to the flight being cancelled, contacting Petpals was very easy from abroad and the 4 cats were looked after for another morning. All cats were healthy and happy, even the stray one was in the garden soon after we arrived home. We will certainly book Petpals again when we are away.
  • December 7, 2010 by Helen Smith - Petpals Wirral West

Jim and Jayne have provided an excellent service providing care for our dog. She is a very friendly dog who loves people and she clearly enjoys her time with Jayne and Jim. They were keen to help plan care that they tailored to my needs. I have no concerns regarding my home security and Jessie is always safely in her bed when we get home. I have recommended Jayne and Jim to a friend, and would not hesitate to do so again.
  • November 30, 2010 by Julia Finch - Petpals Wirral West

Jim and Jayne have been absolutely brilliant and are incredibly professional, our dog absolutely loves going to them and they are obviously keeping her busy as she is exhausted by the time she gets home. I would have not hesitation in recommending them to anyone who wants someone who cares about animals to care for their animal.
  • November 22, 2010 by Tracy and Mike Byron - Petpals Wirral West

My family had booked a short break away for half term a while ago, planning to leave our cats at home with my mum popping in daily to feed and check on them. However, a week before we were due to go away, our cat Reuben suffered an injury to his back leg which required surgery. The success of the operation depended upon cage rest being taken for approximately six weeks. He had about fifteen stitches and a large neck collar to prevent him meddling with his wound. Naturally, I thought this would completely ruin our plans, as I couldn't expect my mum to care for a very temperamental injured cat for the weekend (she has a very busy life) I noticed an advertisement on Facebook for Petpals and gave them a ring thinking that there maybe an outside chance of them helping. How pleased I was! We chatted over the telephone and arranged a home visit to meet the cats, Mab and Reuben that evening. When they arrived, we were immediately put at ease by the instant rapport both Jayne and Jim had for them. We were provided with insurance documents, CRB checks etc. and were more than happy to go on holiday with peace of mind that our pets were being cared for. Whilst we were away, we were delighted to receive a couple of texts from Jayne keeping us up to date with the antics of Mab and Reuben who didn't seem to be missing us one little bit! I felt I could completely relax as the week preceding our holiday had been very harrowing, worrying about Reuben's health. On our return, feeling thoroughly rejuvenated, Mab greeted us as if we hadn't even left the building! Reuben was much the same, a little depressed but that's to be expected, he is not enjoying his "cage rest". They both had clean litter trays, food dishes, groomed fur, sparkly eyes and our house was exactly as we had left it. Even better was a "diary" left on the kitchen table along with our house keys with entries made by Jayne each time they visited, describing the cats' antics and well being. When we go away again, we will definitely ask for them to assist us again. The service provided was above and beyond our expectations. I will be recommending this wonderful couple to EVERYONE! (Catteries will be going out of business!)
  • October 21, 2010 by Yvette Bettley - Petpals Wirral West

I would highly recommend Jim & Jayne from Petpals to look after anyone's dogs. As I am only a dog owner, I cannot comment on other animals, but from the professional and passionately caring attitude demonstrated so far, I can imagine they would be the same with any type of pet. They were both very friendly and my dogs instantly felt at ease with them in our initial 'dog-nanny interview' as my daughter descibed it. I felt confident in leaving access to my home and the care of my two dogs to them, and feel that nothing would be too much trouble for them. I look forward to a long and friendly relationship with Petpals and I am glad I found them.

  • October 12, 2010 by Gemma Jaggard - Petpals Wirral West

Jayne & Jim were very friendly and explained the service fully. They went above and beyond to let us know our pet was happy whilst we were away. They were easy to contact and always available. I liked being able to contact them via text

The service I received from Petpals (Wirral West) exceeded my expectations and I would happily recommend them to friends and family

‘Pup Idol’ Sponsored by Petpals (Wirral West)

Petpals (Wirral West) recently sponsored the very popular 'Pup Idol' dog show in Little Sutton. The event, organised by Sarah O'Flanagan of the Cheshire Constabulary, took place on 28 October, and was well supported by the local community who came out in good numbers to parade their pooches.

Fun was had by all, and an impressive variety of dogs and their owners took part in the different categories. The best of show award, sponsored by Petpals, went to the beautiful all-white German Shepherd, Annouk and her owner Heather.

Petpals (Wirral West) owner, Jim Furlong:

‘It was a pleasure to support Sarah in this venture. We really enjoyed the day, and it was lovely to see the variety of dogs on display.

All the categories were keenly contested, and there was real delight from the winners - even the prize for ‘the owner that looks most like their dog’ was highly competitive.’

Petpals (Wirral West) is your first stop on the Wirral for your dog walking, cat visits, home boarding and pet taxiing needs. They can be contacted on 0151 353 8060 or emailed at: wirralwest@petpals.com

From pupils to pooches - Neston couple launch pet sitting service

About my Area – Neston Local News Published: 29th September 2010 09:17

After teaching for 18 years, Jim Furlong and his wife Jayne, decided to turn their love of animals into a business and they have just launched Petpals Wirral West, based in Neston, and covering the whole of the Wirral.

Jim and Jayne Furlong who have launched Petpals Wirral West

Jim said: ”It was a big decision for us both to give up our careers. I was running 5 departments as a Head of Humanities, and Jayne was a professional librarian. However, we both love animals and we decided to start this new business as a result.

“With the busy lives people have today, there is a real need for our services.

“Late hours at work means people cannot always get back to walk their dogs, and more people are preferring to leave their cats in their own homes while on holday instead of putting them through the stress of catteries.

“We are fully insured and police-checked for peace of mind.”

Caring for pets during Bonfire Night

Bonfire Night may be great fun for the family, but it can be a frightening time for our pets. The sudden explosive sounds can cause real anxiety and fear in our animals.

There are however things that we can do that can minimise their anxiety. Neston’s local pet care specialist, Jim Furlong of Petpals (Wirral West), offers some advice on how to help get our pets through this stressful time.

“There is no doubt that Bonfire Night can be an ordeal for our animals. They are often very stressed by the sound of the fireworks. To minimise their upset, I would suggest a few things we can do:

  • Bring your pets indoors and draw the curtains to keep them as safe as possible during Bonfire Night.
  • Create a favourite den for your pets. Encourage them to go there by placing healthy food treats there, by putting their favourite toy or favourite blanket there. This will help them feel more comfortable and secure.
  • If your dog or cat hides during the fireworks you should try to ignore them, by fussing over them you can cause more stress.
  • During Bonfire night play music or switch on the television to drown out noise from fireworks.
  • At some vets you can purchase a simple plug-in diffuser that disperses a dog/cat appeasing pheromone into the room. The pheromone reassures the animal and naturally calms them down. You should aim to plug in the diffuser a week before Bonfire Night, so the pheromone has time to build up to significant levels and ensures the pets are as relaxed as possible.
  • If your pet is not microchipped, make sure they have a collar or tag, in case they run away.
  • Give your dog plenty of exercise during the day to ensure it is tired and ready to sleep in the evening.
  • We must not forget our small pets, such as rabbits or guinea pigs. They can become very stressed by loud noises. If they live outside, bring them indoors or into the garden shed.

If we can follow some of these steps, hopefully our pets can get through Bonfire Night with the minimum of stress.”

Petpals (Wirral West) delivers high quality and professional pet services for all your pet care needs. These services include pet home visits, dog walking, cat sitting, dog sitting, dog visits, dog and small animal boarding – all with the aim of providing your pets with the same love and affection they receive from you. It is a particularly popular alternative to catteries and kennels.
