Following the success of Petpals Darlington & Yarm, operated by his wife Sallyann, David launched Petpals Tees Valley to run in tandem from September 2007.
David is a former Police Officer and spent many years in a senior management role for a top UK retailer before deciding to join his wife in running a business centred on their joint love of animals.
Sallyann and David are committed and experienced pet carers and their current menagerie includes three dogs, a beautiful retriever called Jasper and two rescue dogs (from Dogs Trust) called Gem and Summer, two cats, two rabbits, a five foot corn snake, an aquarium full of fish and a pony – Bob the Cob!
David, together with his pet care team of Suzanne, Elaine, Jayne, Pauline, Jackie, Emma, Sue and Amy have amassed years of experience with almost all types of domestic pets. Obviously lots of gorgeous cats and dogs, but even some of our more exotic friends such as snakes, turtles, lizards, cockatiels, house rabbits, chinchillas, degus, poultry, pigeons, goats, free flying budgies and parrots too - the whole team are committed to giving all pets the very best care and attention.
Petpals Tees Valley offers more than just a service, they create a community for their customers to share, and join in with. Monthly community dog walks, free advice from training and behavioural experts, continuing support for all pet owners, and a fun, informative newsletter are just some examples. You can even follow the fun on Facebook.
Whether you use the service once, or 365 days a year, Petpals Tees Valley will work with you to create the perfect care plan for your pet(s). We constantly review our service to our customers, who are asked to feedback on quality of care, professionalism, ease of use and recommendation. Petpals Tees Valley provides a professional quality service using experienced dog handlers to ensure your dog receives a unique off lead adventure every time. New places, new experiences, play, and challenges are all part of their adventure with Petpals.
By making use of the many areas of natural beauty found locally in and around the Tees Valley, our dedicated team aim to give your dog a stimulating and enjoyable experience in a safe environment.
Using our expertise, we will socialise your dog with other similar dogs and take them out for a unique adventure. This in turn means your dogs are also mentally stimulated, thus ensuring we return them home tired but happy.
We charge for the whole experience not by the hour or half hour. So, if we decide to go to the beach or the forest for the day, it’s all inclusive and your dog will have an experience over a few hours.
Your dog receives a minimum 'paws on the floor' time of about 40 minutes but may well have a social outing of up to 2 hours.
Not sure whether your dog is socialised? – Petpals can help – contact us to discuss how we could work with you to introduce your dog into the programme. Still not sure- check out our testimonials page.
Petpals accepts that the multi walk is not for everyone therefore if you believe the social walks are inappropriate or simply too much for your best friend then we can also offer a solo walk.
Using the same expertise we will still create a walk experience for your dog and ensure they receive the same quality of care and stimulation so that they return home tired but happy.
Here at Petpals Tees Valley we can help you select the right puppy, and then offer help and support to ensure your new best friend fits right in to their new family environment.
We can further help by offering puppy visits to walk, play, and if required help with ongoing training, toileting breaks etc along with, of course, lots of TLC.
Once your puppy can go out we can start socialising them into the dog walking experience as detailed above so that your puppy gets the best opportunity to develop into a confident, sociable and happy dog.
So much more fun than kennels!!
We offer a home doggy boarding service where your dog can stay in the home of one of our carefully selected and dedicated boarders. Following a very detailed assessment Petpals will match your dog to the family best suited to provide a home from home environment. Our boarders will cater for your dogs' usual routines and lifestyle.
You will be given the opportunity to meet the boarder before you go away and to see where your dog(s) will be staying, providing you with complete piece of mind – ensuring you can switch off, relax and enjoy your holiday safe in the knowledge your dog(s)'s on holiday too!!.
When your dog stays with a Petpals family they are treated as one of the family with all the usual sights, sounds and smells of family life, but best of all they will be given all the love, cuddles and attention they deserve.
Petpals provide the purrrrfect alternative to a cattery.
It's a fact that moving cats causes stress; which is why leaving a cat at home is the vets preferred method of care for when you need to go away. Besides, which cat wouldn't choose all the comforts of home and regular contact from a Petpals carer.
Our clients can go away safe in the knowledge that we are visiting their cats once, twice or three times a day to feed, clean litter trays if required, play, and of course give lots of TLC. All of our carers attend regular training courses so we can cater for elderly or cats who require regular medication such as injected insulin.
We also provide complimentary services to ensure your home is well looked after whilst you're away, for example, opening & closing of curtains, post and newspaper collection, putting rubbish out and of course ensuring the house plants survive the holiday!!
Home Sitting is the traditional service where a fully vetted pet carer stays in your home while you are away so that your pets can remain in their own familiar surroundings, enjoying their own routines while you are away.
The carer will sleep at your home and care for your home as well as your pets while you are away.
We have varied experience in caring for small pets and exotics and are happy to provide home visits (see cat visits) or a home boarding option (see doggy boarding) for these types of pets too.
We have expert exotic bird boarders who would be delighted to look after your feathered friend.
Petpals Tees Valley regrets it is no longer able to offer a pet taxi service.
The out of hours vet emergency service 'Vets Now' now operate their own pet ambulance which is now available for emergency trips to the vet. They can be contacted on 0845 313 4994
If there is a service you require that is not listed above, or you have any special requirements, please contact us and we will do our best to help

EVERY pet has its little ways...
One little dog, for instance, had its own bedroom, its own bed and its own routine, which meant that every night when Sallyann Gray was looking after him, she tucked him up in bed and pulled the duvet snugly over him.
"It was what he was used to and what the owner wanted us to do," says Sallyann, "so, of course, that's what we did."
Sallyann and husband David run the local Petpals, which will basically care for your pets as well as you would, right down to its very special routine.

Sallyanne Grey and her husband David run Petpals (Darlington and Yarm), an all purpose pet service that includes walking caring, dog sitting and pet taxis. They were very helpful when a darlington reader had to take her dog to the vet. But when a few weeks later, the same reader had to take her dog Nell and have her put down, Sallyanne and David were really brilliant. [read full article]
The clocks going back, bonfire night and gathering of leaves in the gardens are all signs that winter is fast approaching and with it the fact walking the dog in the daytime becomes more difficult to the working family.
The PDSA recently published a survey that found a third of dog owners found that their dogs were affected by SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) with the dark winter months inducing depression. Half of all dog owners found that their animal spent longer asleep during winter and 20% said their best friend was less lively. [read full article]
