Welcome to Petpals Stockport

Sarah Richardson launched her Petpals operation in September 2003 after 18 years working in the mail order business, deciding to change career to combine her love of animals and the great outdoors.

Over the years Sarah has kept cats, fish and a pony and is currently the proud owner of Pickle, a working cocker spaniel. Pickle was a ‘Hearing Dogs for Deaf People’ ‘fallen angel’ who couldn’t complete his training due to his gluten intolerance. Sarah has recently been one of the sponsors of Edith, a rescue Shih Tzu puppy who has now qualified and been placed with her new deaf owner.

Pickle loves having 'friends' to stay, and showing them his favourite walks. Home boarding is an incredibly popular service, a real alternative to kennels and we would always recommend making early enquiries, especially for the popular school holidays to avoid disappointment. We are always on the look out for new host families for our clients dogs, so email us if you know anyone who might be suitable.

At Petpals we are fully trained and insured. Our pet care services are flexible and can be tailored to your pet's individual needs. Whether it's a puppy or older dog we like to help with the socialisation and training of your pet by finding them a few suitable 'friends' to go out with. This way they get more out of their time with us and often end up having a longer visit as they're so busy having fun!

We have many cat and small pet customers who appreciate being able to leave their pets at home in familiar surroundings, or even their own fruit bowl! (see picture of Gizmo above). A number of our cats are, unfortunately, diabetic, so we are used to giving regular injections.

To give you peace of mind that you will always receive continuous service, we operate with a small, dedicated team which enables us to cover any staff illness and holidays. Claire, Charlotte, Ian, Jane and Jayne are all dedicated animal lovers, who between them have owned cats, dogs, hamsters, rabbits, gerbils, guinea pigs and even a fat-tailed gecko and tarantula!

• Dog Walking

  Making use of the many areas found locally, our dog walking aims to give your dog a stimulating and enjoyable walk in a safe environment. These can be individual visits for your dog(s) and or multi walks, with up to four dogs at a time transported in our purpose fitted vehicles.

• Puppy and Elderly Dog Visits

  Our puppy and elderly pet care service offers you units of time during the day to visit your dog(s) at home. During the visit we walk your dog or puppy, play, and if required help with ongoing training, toileting breaks, etc., along with, of course, lots of TLC.

• Dog Boarding and Pet Boarding

  We offer a pet boarding and pet care experience where your dog can stay in the home of one of our carefully selected, dedicated carers. You will be given the opportunity to meet the pet boarding carer before you go away and to see where your pet will be staying. When your dog stays with a Petpals approved family they are treated as one of the family with all the usual sights, sounds and smells of family life, but best of all they will receive all the love, cuddles and attention they deserve!

• Cat Sitting and Cat Visits

  Petpals have proven to be very popular with clients that want to leave their cats at home in there own environment, with familiar comforts and smells, particularly with elderly cats and cats that need medication. Our cat sitting service allows clients to go away safe in the knowledge that Petpals are visiting their cats to feed, clean litter trays if required, play, along with lots of TLC.

• Pet Sitting and Home Sitting

  Our home based pet sitting service is a real alternative to kennels, your pets can remain in their own familiar surroundings, with their own routines and food while you are away.

• Small Pets and Exotics

  Petpals also have varied experience in caring for small pets and exotics and are happy to provide home visits for these types of pets too.

• Pet Taxi

  Petpals are equipped with pet friendly vehicles fitted with specially designed safety cages of various sizes with a vet bed on top of removable rubber matting for hygiene. We can transport everything from small pets and cats to giant dog breeds. We can also help with trips to the vets.

  I was so pleased that I could leave my indoor pet rabbit in the capable hands of Sarah and Ian this year whilst we were on holiday. It was so much better for "flopsy" to be able to stay in her own home where she is settled and to know that petpals were taking good care of her, the text messages to reassure us while we were away were great.   I have been using Sarah's services for a few years now after years of using kennels and the upheaval that caused my pet over the years. It was time for an alternative and finding Petpals was a godsend. I think that the job Sarah does is absolutely fantastic and my pet benefits from lots of cuddles as well whilst we are away. She is not just looking after my cat Ollie, in his own environment, she is a trusted and reliable person who I know will keep an eye on everything whilst we are away in addition, even do the post and water the plants! That is Added Value! We can honestly say this is the best pet sitting service we have ever used and will certainly recomment Sarah and Petpals to anyone.

  SARAH CAME TO THE RESCUE A FEW WEEKS AGO WHEN ROSIE OUR 4 YEAR OLD COLLIE CROSS NEEDED WALKING DURING THE DAY. THE PROFESSIONAL SERVICE WHICH SARAH PROVIDED WAS EXCELLENT, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY ROSIE LOVED HER OUTINGS AND THE NEW FRIENDS SHE WAS ABLE TO PLAY WITH.   I was quite worried about leaving my monster-kitten in my flat alone for a week, but I needn't have been, and next time I go away for a while it'll be Petpals that keeps my mind at ease. Right from the get-go, professionalism is the driving force: careful notes taken on your pet's needs and routine, genuine affection for animals demonstrated at all times, careful documentation of service provided... and everything done with a very personal touch and attention to detail.   Sarah has been looking after our cats for approximately 3 years now. Initially she looked after Fitz, who was Diabetic - Sarah called in to give him his Insulin injections, and generally see to his daily needs whilst we were on holiday. It was wonderful to know that Fitz was in extremely caring, capable hands, and we had no need to worry about his care. Sadly, after some time, we lost Fitz but, after a few months, adopted two female cats, Cookie and Muffin, from The Society For Abandoned Animals in Stretford. Sarah continues to come round each time we are away, and look after the girls with the same level of care and attention she gave to Fitz. It is of great comfort to know she is there each day, and the cats are happy in their own, safe environment. Thank you so much, Sarah. Julie and Barry McAllister.

  Sarah has been caring for our three rescue terriers [terrorists!] over the last 5 years. We come home to happy content dogs - everytime and my first act after I've said hello to the dogs is to read their term report and find out how they've been and where they've been to. What is really lovely,is to see their delight when the Petpal van arrives. When you see such happy expressions on their faces you know in your gut that your dogs are in safe hands.

It's great to know that our cats, Arthur and Muriel are well looked after when ever we're away and Jam loves his walks on the days we're both at work.   I was very apprehensive about leaving our puppy for the first time, but I needn't have been worried. When I went to collect him, after a short stay with his Petpals family, he seemed more than at home there. His carers are lovely people with a beautiful home. Having never used a service like this before, it has made me realise that I would never want to leave our dog in boarding kennels. Leaving him with a petpals family is just like a home from home for our puppy. He gets all the walkies & cuddles he would get at home...what more could we ask for? I would have no hesitation to recommend Petpals to anyone!
