Since its launch in May 2006 Petpals Darlington & Yarm continues to go from strength to strength, enabling Sallyann to take on new staff and ultimately for her husband David to be able to join the team too.

Sallyann and David are committed and experienced pet carers and their current menagerie includes 3 dogs, a beautiful retriever called Jasper and two rescue dogs (from Dogs Trust in Darlington) called Gem and Summer, two cats, two rabbits, a 5 foot long corn snake, an aquarium of tropical fish and a pony!

Her first year has been incredibly busy caring for over 400 pets, obviously lots of gorgeous cats and dogs, also some of our more exotic friends such as snakes, turtles, and cockatiels, not to mention house rabbits and free flying budgies too!!.

Petpals Darlington & Yarm are trusted and recommended by their local vets. They are now proud to provide their vets with emergency and out of hours transport for sick or injured pets and regularly transport pets to and from the regions specialist vet hospitals.

Sallyann & David welcome calls from pet owners in and around the Darlington, Yarm and Teeside areas to discuss how Petpals can help them and their pets.

Petpals Darlington offers more than just a service, they create a community for their customers to share, and join in with. Monthly community dog walks, free advice from training and behavioural experts, continuing support for all pet owners, and a fun, informative newsletter are just some examples. • Dog Walking

  Making use of the many areas of natural beauty found locally, our dedicated team of dog walkers aim to give your dog a stimulating and enjoyable walk in a safe environment. These can be individual visits for your dog(s) and or multi walks, with up to four dogs at a time transported in our purpose fitted vehicles.

• Puppy/Elderly Dog Visits

  We can offer you units of time during the day to visit your dog(s). During the visit we walk, play, and if required help with ongoing training, toileting breaks, etc., along with, of course, lots of TLC.

• Doggy Home Boarding

  We offer a home boarding experience where your dog can stay in the home of one of our carefully selected, dedicated carers. You will be given the opportunity to meet the carer before you go away and to see where your pet will be staying. When your dog stays with a Petpals family they are treated as one of the family with all the usual sights, sounds and smells of family life, but best of all they will receive all the love, cuddles and attention they deserve!!

• Cat Visits

  Petpals has proven to be very popular with clients that want to leave their cats at home in there own environment, with familiar comforts and smells, particularly with elderly cats and cats that need medication. Our clients can go away safe in the knowledge that Petpals Darlington & Yarm are visiting their cats to feed, clean litter trays if required, play, along with lots of TLC.

• Home Sitting

  A real alternative to kennels, your pets can remain in their own familiar surroundings, with their own routines and food while you are away. 

• Small Pets and Exotics

  Petpals Darlington & Yarm also have varied experience in caring for small pets and exotics and are happy to provide home visits for these types of pets too.

• Pet Taxi

  At Petpals Darlington & Yarm we are equipped with pet friendly vehicles. These are fitted with safety cages of various sizes with a vet bed on top of removable rubber matting for hygiene. We can transport everything from small pets and cats to giant dog breeds such as Pyreneans. We can also help with trips to the vets, your pet’s groomer, or full relocations nationwide.

  Don't know what we would do without Sal and her wonderful team. Bella loves her walkies with the Patpals girls, the minute she sees the Petpals blue jumper her tail starts wagging! It's great to know she is always exploring somewhere new. The daily feedback given after her walks is a lovely touch. They are extremely flexible and accommodating to any last minute requirements, we would be lost without you! Bella also loves spending her holidays with Sandra and her family.   I recently left my guinea pigs in the care of Petpals as no willing relatives were available to look after them. I felt confident about leaving them from the moment that I met my piggy-sitter and my boys returned to me healthy and happy. In future I will leave my guinea pigs with Petpals, rather than my not-so-experienced relatives!

  Exceptional! Simple as that, SallyAnn and her team are tremendous. I love my dog so much and to know that he is in safe, capable hands with people and dogs who he also loves provides me with pure peace of mind. I cannot imagine life with petpals.   Hegel and Delphi our two cats barely knew we were gone and from the excellent report on their behaviour we got from Sal were clearly happy and content - we should go away more often!It's great to know they are fine and cared for by people who like them - and they are happy in their own home, not unhappy in strange surroundings.   I don't know where I would be without Sal and her crew! She always finds time to feed my two cats, even at short notice. She looks after them so well and it is so nice knowing they are being so well looked after. My two cats are very happy in her care and don't seem to notice I am away!!   Since discovering Petpals it has been great to be able to go away safe in the knowledge that our cats will be cared for - especially our old one who is too old for the upheaval of a cattery and who needs his daily medication. The daily log also keeps us informed of what has been going on which is very reassuring. A brilliant service and highly recommended.

  I would recommend Darlington Petpals to anybody - I don't know how we would manage without them! The dogs love them, and going out with Petpals has done them good - especially our ex-racer greyhound, who has lost her nervousness and gained loads of confidence by going out with a variety of helpers (all so nice!) and socialising with the other dogs. A wonderful service.

  Sal & the gang have been fantastic with Ollie since we got him in September, from puppy visits to walkies, I never worry about him when I am out as I know he's being well looked after & having an absolute ball with his many 4 legged pals. I love the fact that walks are off-lead & can involve water & mud & are full on fun but also the fact that Sal & Co will deal quickly with bad behaviour and daily feedback is given! I wouldn't have got through my final year at Uni sanely without Ollie but I couldn't have had Ollie without the fantastic service & support of Petpals!   Petpals Darlington & Yarm is fantastic far superior to other similiar companys due to their structure & resources they are able to cope with last minute bookings and pre planned as a dalmation owner invaluable .. my pet has been placed with petpals over 4 years for walks and home boarding he loves it , when the van pulls up , he knows its fun and games .. and their staff are so polite and trustworthy i have total peace of mind especially when having to work shifts and unsociable hours , thanks sally / david and co.. from buster the dalmation and owner..

  I don't know how i used to cope without petpals. No matter how short notice, they somehow always manage to fit Minstrel in for home boarding or a walk. I have complete piece of mind that she will be having a ball whenever she is out with the petpals gang. Whenever she goes out, either for a walk or for homeboarding, she always comes home a tired and happy dog.... I can't recommend the petpals service enough. Thankyou from me and the dog!

  We just love Sal and co! They are nearly as good as our owners (we've got to say that as they are helping us type this). They take us on fab walks - feed us gravy bones when we're good (and actually good is most of the time because they've trained us so well - we just keep them on their toes every now and again). We wouldn't like life without petpals and hope that Mam and Dad are listening properly.

  My black labrador has been home boarding with Petpals for two years now and, apart from one occasion, always with his Auntie Sandra. The number of stays now total sixteen so it has cost me an absolute fortune. Unfortunately Ole (my dog) insists that my wife go on holiday as often as possible in order that he can go on his jollies too. He is so well looked after that he has to be dragged away on our return....it's so embarrassing! On a serious note, Sandra and her family are marvellous. I never worry about Ole, knowing he is being looked after better than he is at home. I would recommend Petpals and Sandra in particular to anyone.....just be careful that your dog doesn't decide he/she isn't coming home. Ole has also been walked on occasion by David.....again Ole has enjoyed himself enormously. The only criticism I can make is that sometimes he has had to mix with the Boys from the Boro instead of his preferred company, the Wags from Wynyard.

  I can't speak highly enough of Sal and her team. Although usually we only need the occasional dog walk, we're always treated with the same friendly, first class care and attention as regular customers. We've just had our first long weekend away in years, confidently leaving dog, cats and home in Sal's safe-keeping - and you can't put a price on that kind of peace of mind. In any case, the service is incredibly reasonable; it would certainly have cost far more to put Bryan, Jeffrey and George into kennels and catteries, they wouldn't have been together (which would have really distressed them as they've never been apart or away from home), their routines would have been disrupted and, at the end of a long, exhausting journey, we would have had to run around collecting them from their various locations before we could relax. Instead, we walked in to settled, contented pets, a cheery word from Sal before she dashed off to her next assignment and were able to unwind over a cup of tea.

  I just feel so fortunate to have found PetPals of Darlingotn and Yarm. Sally-Ann and David run an amazingly efficient, incredibly friendly and innovative service for people like me who need help with our doggies. Nothing is too much trouble for them and I know that I can count on them and their talented team absolutely. Furthermore, their attention to detail and ability with animals is second to none. I have just come back from a 3 week break and have been given detailed feedback PLUS photos of my dogs' stay with them.   Petpals provide a great service! We have a 7 month old beagle that loves his walks with petpals, he has made lots of new friends! It is great to come back from work and read what he has been up to on his walk. They are very flexible and if I need a walk changing to a different date it is never a problem. They have also lent us a crate to stop our naughty beagle from chewing through everything in our house, they are fantastic!

  I love my walkies with Sallyann and her team! I get to play with lots of other doggies and get to socialise with doggies which I wouldn't otherwise meet. I've stayed wtih Sallyann and her family for my holidays last year and had a wonderful time! I've even asked my owner to ask if I can go again this year. Being a doggy that likes to play, get lots of cuddles and feel safe I'm so pleased my owner contacted Sallyann. I even had a poorly leg last year and Sallyann was fantastic helping to look after me.

  Finding out about Petpals and meeting Sally Ann and some of her carers has been the best thing that has happened since we got our dog. Care can be sorted at very short notice, and all the families Kal has stayed with have been fantastic.   Petpals is a very well run, professional organisation. I recommend them who I suspect may benefit from their excellent services. Pet Pals Darlington and Yarm, run by David & Sallyann Gray is in my opinion a superb service. I have come to know them both very well over the past couple of years.   We used Sally Ann (Petpals Darlington) to visit our 3 cats, 1 rabbit and fish while we were on holiday. It was so nice to relax by the pool knowing that someone was regularly visiting our home and cats. It was fabulous to return home to a day by day log that was left for us and a wee gift, especially as we have a painfully shy cat who even he seemed to take to a "stranger" visiting him. We'd like to say a big, big thankyou for such a wonderful service and we will definitely be using Sally Ann and her fab team again!!

  The service that Darlington pet pals provide my 2 dogs is 1st class. We have 2 King Charles spaniel's one 8 months and one 6 months old. We have used Sal and her team's services since August 2008 and the team have tailored our walks and visits to suit our dogs. For an example of how great the service is, when our eldest king Charles got his new friend in November 08 and she was not able to go out doors, a puppy visit was combined with a walk for our older dog so that he didn't go without. Also the puppy service that the team offers is such a life line, When we got our King Charles in August we had 3 weeks of work and then the wrench of going back to work and leaving our baby was eased knowing that Sal was coming in twice a day to complete a puppy visit.

  Now both our dogs are seen to by pet pals 3-4 times a week, the walks help them to learn to be social with other dogs and humans, We also love to read the daily diary that is kept for the dogs when we come home from work. The dogs know and love Sal to bits, when we visit Sal at her home they drag us up to the front door and when Sal visits the house there little tails polish my wooden floor a treat.

  This is a service that we could not do without as it allows us to have a working life and the love and joy of still having our dogs without them being left alone all day.. SAD dogs cured by Petpals

The clocks going back, bonfire night and gathering of leaves in the gardens are all signs that winter is fast approaching and with it the fact walking the dog in the daytime becomes more difficult to the working family.

The PDSA recently published a survey that found a third of dog owners found that their dogs were affected by SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) with the dark winter months inducing depression. Half of all dog owners found that their animal spent longer asleep during winter and 20% said their best friend was less lively. [read full article]

A year of kindness

Sallyanne Grey and her husband David run Petpals (Darlington and Yarm), an all purpose pet service that includes walking caring, dog sitting and pet taxis. They were very helpful when a darlington reader had to take her dog to the vet. But when a few weeks later, the same reader had to take her dog Nell and have her put down, Sallyanne and David were really brilliant. [read full article]

Where pets are kings

EVERY pet has its little ways...

One little dog, for instance, had its own bedroom, its own bed and its own routine, which meant that every night when Sallyann Gray was looking after him, she tucked him up in bed and pulled the duvet snugly over him.

"It was what he was used to and what the owner wanted us to do," says Sallyann, "so, of course, that's what we did."

Sallyann and husband David run the local Petpals, which will basically care for your pets as well as you would, right down to its very special routine.
