Hi pet owners, my name is Julia Holland. Previously I worked as an Interior designer and have lived in Newcastle all my life. I have always been passionate about animals hence my change in career to have a more suitable and rewarding one.

I moved into Quarry Cottage this year to enjoy the peace and relaxation of the countryside and it is an ideal place for animals.

In my free time, I enjoy walking and I am an accomplished horse rider, my dream being to own a horse of my own one day. I have a collie called Joe, who (if you know what collies are like) is as daft as a brush and always up for a good walk.

From a young age I have owned numerous pets including dogs, cats, hamsters, rabbits, mice, gerbils, guinea pigs, fish (cold and tropical), even a jackdaw called Jackie and a gosling called Alexander.

I am willing to offer the Petpals service for any species of animal you may own and also have a diploma in small animal care and being an accomplished rider can also offer equine services.

At Petpals we are fully trained, insured, uniformed and police checked. We are delighted to offer a flexible range of friendly, professional services that can be personally tailored to your requirements and your pet’s individual needs. Our pet sitting and pet boarding services include, dog sitting, dog walking, dog boarding, home visits for cats and small pets, puppy care, elderly dog care, home visits for dogs, cat sitting and a pet taxi and pet to vet service.

• Dog Walking

  Making use of the many areas found locally, our dog walking aims to give your dog a stimulating and enjoyable walk in a safe environment. These can be individual visits for your dog(s) and or multi walks, with up to four dogs at a time transported in our purpose fitted vehicles.

• Puppy and Elderly Dog Visits

  Our puppy and elderly pet care service offers you units of time during the day to visit your dog(s) at home. During the visit we walk your dog or puppy, play, and if required help with ongoing training, toileting breaks, etc., along with, of course, lots of TLC.

• Dog Boarding and Pet Boarding

  We offer a pet boarding and pet care experience where your dog can stay in the home of one of our carefully selected, dedicated carers. You will be given the opportunity to meet the pet boarding carer before you go away and to see where your pet will be staying. When your dog stays with a Petpals approved family they are treated as one of the family with all the usual sights, sounds and smells of family life, but best of all they will receive all the love, cuddles and attention they deserve!

• Cat Sitting and Cat Visits

  Petpals have proven to be very popular with clients that want to leave their cats at home in there own environment, with familiar comforts and smells, particularly with elderly cats and cats that need medication. Our cat sitting service allows clients to go away safe in the knowledge that Petpals are visiting their cats to feed, clean litter trays if required, play, along with lots of TLC.

• Pet Sitting

  Our home based pet sitting service is a real alternative to kennels, your pets can remain in their own familiar surroundings, with their own routines and food while you are away.

• Small Pets and Exotics

  Petpals also have varied experience in caring for small pets and exotics and are happy to provide home visits for these types of pets too.

• Pet Taxi

  Petpals are equipped with pet friendly vehicles fitted with specially designed safety cages of various sizes with a vet bed on top of removable rubber matting for hygiene. We can transport everything from small pets and cats to giant dog breeds. We can also help with trips to the vets.

Animal lover launches pet-sitting /dog walking service

Julia Holland an animal lover has launched her pet-sitting business by making donations to local animal welfare charities. Genna Reece who is the development Manager accepted the cheque on behalf of the Benton Dog and Cat shelter.

Julia has started Petpals from her home and will take in any kind of animal while its owner is away. Her services also include cat sitting and dog walking, To mark its launch, Ms Holland has made donations of £100 to the Dog and cat shelter, in Benton. She hopes to hold fundraising events for this charity in the future.

She said, "I have rescue dogs of my own and when the opportunity came along to start Petpals I decided to go for it. It's a total change of career for me, but I'm looking forward to it.

While the credit crunch has had an impact on many other service sectors, Petpals' franchisees are enjoying healthy turnovers as pet-owners clamor for a trustworthy, reliable service for their animals. Petpals is seeing business increasing despite the current state of the economy. Managing Director Kevin Thackrah said, "In spite of the recession our average revenues are still increasing year-on-year, with people still happy to spend money on their pets even though they may have cut costs elsewhere. For pet-owners, reliable pet care is as essential as child care."
